Say what you will about Steve Aoki, aka DJ Kid Millionaire; last night at the Johnny Walker Black Circuit Paddock Party he proved to all in attendance why he’s such a hot commodity. I was pretty much underwhelmed and wondered what all the fuss was about after listening to Aoki’s recent mix CD, Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicle, it’s alright but so are a lot of mix CDs. Post event, i can only confirm what many have said beforehand, that the Kid Millionaire is definately “all that” live.
Aoki’s ability to visually and aurally connect with a crowd and keep them entertained is something that has to be seen to be believed before passing judgement. The entire dancefloor was absolutely rammed, people were squashed up against one another and thrusting their fists into the air as if they were reenacting a street protest. The highly charged set combined electro, rock, hip hop and Aoki’s infamous antics to keep the crowd bouncing all the way through from start to finish.
My only complaint is that my media pass couldn’t get me into the DJ booth to take better pictures, so i had to squeeze myself between the outer of the booth and a huge friggin’ speaker to get the above shots. I have a constant ringing in my ears now, i think it’s tinnitus… enjoy the pics.
More pictures after the jump.
