During the 90s, on the back of the revolutionary Street Fighter II, the Street Fighter series of 2D fighting games could do no wrong. The anticipation for Street Fighter III was immense - people were expecting miracles.
When it was finally released in 1997, it featured silky smooth 2D graphics and an interesting combat system - and that was it. Street Fighter III came out and it was just another fighting game.
At the time, home consoles such as the original Playstation were really taking off, which eventually resulted in the demise of the arcade industry. Capcom have laid off from making any new fighting games lately, but for the 20th anniversary of Street Fighter this year, they will be releasing Street Fighter IV.
Free from any ridiculous expectations, the game will definately be a treat from long-time fans, such as ourselves. For the release, Capcom have teamed up with American streetwear brand Triumvir on some projects. Little is known at the moment, but the first project will revolve around Street Fighter 2 final boss Vega (Or M. Bison in the states) and his Shadaloo Crime Syndicate.
Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming projects.
