Malaysian artist Nadiah Bamadhaj will be holding a solo art exhibition, titled Surveillance, at Valentine Willie Fine Art this August. The new collection of paintings are a continuation of her previous series of works, that investigated how the way environments are built in Malaysia contribute to the maintenance of state power. Through her art, Nadiah puts forth the argument that the spaces that we reside in have actually been moulded into several groups, based on religion and ethnicity, making the subjects readily identifiable as if they were under surveillance.
Surveillance runs from 16th - 30th August, 2008, at Valentine Willie Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, 1st Floor, 17 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru, 59100 Kuala Lumpur; T +603 2284 2348.
