A few predicted that 2008 would be the year of Reebok, yet here we are about to enter 2009 and although the brand has displayed a stronger showing in the past 12 months, so has the competition. With the launch of the 3,000sqf Reebok pop-up store in New York, we can see that the company is still pushing their relevancy in the sportswear industry. The temporary retail space takes it’s colourful design inspiration from 80s New York and also serves as a teaser for next year’s 20th Anniversary celebration of the iconic Pump model.
If you attended the recent Sole What? anniversary bash, you would have seen some of upcoming ‘09 Reebok samples, which ended up being the unexpected hit of the night. Although It’s a sad fact that South East Asia doesn’t get most of the quality releases - for example, the brand going on a Freestyle blitz and we have yet to see any decent ones here - next year seems much more promising than this, so stay tuned for more info about Reebok releases in South East Asia.
The store will introduce a different New York-themed item every week, so if you’re in the NYC do drop by. Reebok pop-up store, 169 Bowery, nr. Kenmare Street, New York.
