The Originals by Originals Spring/Summer ‘09 range from adidas has been featured so heavily across the net these past few weeks that it hardly needs any introduction. By now, most have probably seen Japanese design guru Kazuki Kuraishi’s take on the project, fusing together contemporary design with the more technical aspects of sportswear. For example, the casual fitting Business Suit Jacket which has ventilation zippers in the inner sleeves, whilst the M-65 Jacket which has been modernised with polyacryl material and sealed seams for weatherproof wear.
The footwear side of the collection offers reinterpretations of classic adidas kicks, such as the slick looking Vulcanized Boot and the Campus 80s. For fans of all-terrain design, Kazuki adds a touch of high-end Japanese streetwear to the ZXZ series yet doesn’t neglect the functionality aspect of the shoes, as can be seen in the ZXZ Waterproof which employs the use of Gore-Tex uppers.
The tech-influenced design is a stark contrast to Jeremy Scott’s flamboyant pieces and Alyasha Owerka-Moore’s Americana inspired collection. It’s interesting to see each designers representation of classic adidas sportswear, taking it in their own respective directions whilst staying true to the brands sportswear roots. This is just the tip of the iceberg from a long-term project, but in the meantime stayed tuned as we will be taking a closer look at Jeremy Scott and Alaysha Owerka-Moore’s Spring/Summer ‘09 collections.
The adidas Originals by Originals Spring/Summer ‘09 collection by Kazuki will be available at Surrender, Singapore, as well as other selected stockists worldwide starting from February 2009.
