SPOTLIGHT: Roland Berry for Reebok

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Designer Roland Berry has teamed up once again with Reebok for a rather distinctive ‘city series’ of kicks. Using the new CL SW Canvas Mid as a base, Berry has given a very simple silhouette a rather complex appearance though the use of various types of graphics, colours and materials. Each pair of kicks draws upon classic imagery from their assigned city, for instance Los Angeles features a cool blue colourway, whilst the uppers are littered with paisley print and graphics of palm trees and low rider bikes.

New York is represented by Berry’s reinterpretation of the city’s subway system and notoriety for graffiti, whilst Mexico City’s most obvious inspiration comes from the colours of the national flag. Turning back the clocks, London finds itself in medieval history, while Moscow uses imagery from the Soviet era. The Tokyo themed sneakers feature nice details, but will not see a release in these parts due to the usage of graphics depicting the Japanese army during wartime, which could cause sensitivity issues.

The Roland Berry for Reebok City Series will be available at Sneakers, Subang, starting with London and Mexico City this coming September, Moscow by October, and New York and Los Angeles in November.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Lapsap’s 1st Anniversary Party

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

On the back of last week’s packed Lapsap vs Shitdisco gig in Zouk KL’s mainroom, as well as a barrage of slamming sets at various venues around the city, it may have slipped a few minds that the Lapsap movement started off as a private bi-monthly party at Palate Palette.

For their 1st Anniversay Party, Lapsap will be going back to their roots by holding an invite-only party at Palate Palette on 23rd July, 2008. Not only will there be free booze, but there will be three pairs of Reeboks and three pairs of adidas kicks going to the best dressed peeps of the night. Also, early birds will get adidas door gifts, whilst everyone else will get the chance to grab some posters designed by Skuirtgun.

However, the bitch at the door is going to be extremely strict at who she lets in. Luckily, Streething has managed to secure a guestlist for 10 of our members, with the first to email their name to jules@streething.com by this Sunday getting in to this exclusive party. Please don’t mail us if you’re not 100% sure if you can make it.

SPOTLIGHT: Reebok Omni Pump

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Some dynamite kicks coming from Reebok again, this time it’s the Omni Pump basketball sneaker in a rather explosive looking colourway. Apart from the fiery colourway, we like the subtle details, such as the textured suede, speckled midsole and the mountain-boot laces. Trouble is, we just need to find more premium Reebok stockists around these parts.

Available soon at selected Reebok stockists across South East Asia.

SPOTLIGHT: Reebok ERS 2000

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

More running kicks coming from Reebok, this time they revisit the ERS 2000 model. The whites look pretty standard for runners, but the traffic cone coloured oranges are plain out loud. Under decent light, the shoes are true attention grabbers, up to the point where some may find their flashy brightness irritating. One for the very brave to pull off, but you gotta be brave to be a sneakerhead right?

Available soon at selected Reebok stockists across South East Asia.

SPOTLIGHT: Reebok Freestyle

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

One for the ladies here, these Reebok Freestyles hark back to the original colourways of the model’s heyday back in the 80s, where almost every female on the planet, including my ma, had a pair. These are one of Reebok’s most popular designs of all time, yet the much talked about 25th anniversary campaign has not set the market on fire as it did a quarter of a century ago.

We’ve seen some really creative designs for the Freestyle, but they’re a far cry from what made them so popular in the first place. Fortuntaly, this batch of fruity kicks, along with the recent pastelle pack, are looking to bring back that old school vibe. Vibrant and bold colours, with some added sparkly bits on the laces, is just one pair enough? We expect handbags to fly when these drop.

Available soon at selected Reebok stockists across South East Asia.
