SPOTLIGHT: adidas Superstar Vintage

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Some may remember the adidas x Oki-Ni Rod Lavers from a few years back, that featured all-over fish skin uppers; this new Superstar Vintage sports wolf-fish skin on the stripes, heel and tongue tag, resulting in a texture that is seldom seen on sneakers. The premium quality kicks also feature high quality nubuck on the uppers and shelltoe, along with a set of leather laces, making them one of the more classy looking Superstars in quite a while. A tasty treat indeed.

Available now at the adidas Originals store @ Pavilion KL, as well as selected stockists around South East Asia.

SPOTLIGHT: Nike Hyperdunk

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Every year, Nike manages to up themselves in the sportwear technology stakes. With this year being that of the Olympic Games, it is no surprise that Nike has gone full force to showcase their advances in the field. Earlier this year, Nike unveiled the Hyperdunk basketball sneaker, which uses Flywire technology, a method of creating an ultra-lightweight material by fusing nylon threads, sythentic leather and mesh.

The result is one of the company’s lightest basketball kicks ever. Knowing that you have the best support is one thing, being able to see it is another. Just like Air technology before, Flywire can easily be identified by it’s aesthetics - which are the criss-cross wire pattern on the uppers, as can be seen in the pictures above and below.

To promote the development of lightweight products for athletes, Nike Malaysia are holding Project Lightweight, a contest open to college and design students within Malaysia.

The grand prize: an all-expense paid 3-day/2-night trip to the Nike World Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

Winners will not only get to wander around the grounds, but they will also be given a tour of the ‘Kitchen’, Nike’s mythical development lab that houses their top design talent, who will be open for Q&As.

To enter, design a future lightweight sports products that will enable athletes to achieve better performance, and send it along with an explanation of the design in not more than 200 words to projectlightweight@email-nike.com.my. Participants must submit their designs before 5pm, 31st July 2008.

The Nike Hyperdunk will be released this month at selected Nike stockists; For more details on the contest, head over to the Project Lightweight website.

REPLAY: adidas x Hellboy II launch @ Originals Store, Pavilion KL

Friday, July 11th, 2008

At long last, the much talked about adidas x Hellboy II Forums and Stan Smith Mids were released yesterday to coincide with the Malaysian movie premiere of Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Although the Forums got the majority vote for the hottest colourway of the collab, the Stan Smith, being much more limited and coming with extra bells and whistles, was the one that got the crowd to queue up.

Thanks to a rather nifty queueing system, implemented with the help of the Komodo NInja crew, everyone got their kicks within half an hour of launch. To keep everyone entertained until the movie premiere, adidas brought in Malaysian graphic/comic artist Michael Chuah, of Gilamon, to work on a live Hellboy painting.

A win-win situation for all, people got tickets to watch the movie, got to see a bit of live art, and most importantly, got their shoes all within an hour - not bad for a sneaker launch. A far cry from a couple of years ago, where our scene was marred by quite a few “questionable” launches. For those that couldn’t make it yesterday, although the Stan Smiths sold out instantly, there are still some Forums available, so head over if you want a piece of hell.

SPOTLIGHT: Nike Air Max 1

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

This season, Nike seems to be very big on gold and silver. We recently showed you the crispy clean white/gold Nike Terminator Highs, and these new Air Max 1s employ similar design features, such as the sleek threadless swoosh, as well as the metallic gold accents. We like the subtle touch of electric blue cracked print on the ankle area, giving the kicks some added depth. Stay tuned, as we bring you more from this collection.

Available at selected Nike stockists around South East Asia sometime this month.

BOSTON LOBSTER

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Inspired by New England’s famous lobster feast and heritage, Nike SB has worked with Boston premier sneaker/skate boutique Concepts to release a pair of Nike SB “Lobster”. This lobsters have managed to swim all the way to our shore but they DO NOT come with the special “lobster cage” boxes which were done only for the first 50 pairs sold in Concepts store. The box which stated “Concepts Fishing Company” contained a lobster claw rubber band, a tee shirt, a condiment box (which includes lobster shell cracker, fork, bib, an extra set of laces, and wet nap) and a poster, all put into a traditional paper bag used by typical, New England lobster retailers. Aren’t we are suckers for special packaging!!?

Nike SB “Lobster” will soon be available at Limited Edt.2 (Singapore), Preduce (Bangkok, Thailand) and Showroom (KL, Malaysia).
