ED BANGER’S BALL

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Last call for this Saturday: French electronic music house, Ed Banger Records, will be bringing the party to Zouk Singapore from 10pm - 5am. Chances for electro-heads to experience such a stellar line-up are few and far between; Yeah, Justice is not playing, but thankfully almost everyone else on the roster is. See you all there.

SINGAPORE MOTOR CITY

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Over the weekend, a close-knit group of supporters and street art aficionados sacrificed a night of Singapore’s alluring nightlife and braved their way to a desolate stretch of automobile workshops for The Killer Gerbil’s first ever solo art exhibition. The collection of works, titled Family, showcased a series of portrait sketches, photographs, as well as tagged-art on canvas, license plates and even a Vespa scooter and car.

Held for less than 48 hours at Geseho Motor Works, the event was literally hot as hell, as most of the artworks were displayed inside the garage’s paint oven. Geseho is a newly established Singaporean streetwear brand, the name derives from founder Tony Tay’s - aka Lazy - father’s garage. Geseho will launch their new collection of apparel soon and are planning to hold more events to promote the local arts/creative scene within the region.

As per usual, the live graffiti installation by South East Asia’s most notorious rodent was entertaining, as was the obligatory pyromaniac celebrations that followed. Surprisingly, Sole Obsession managed to sell off all their hot dogs and buns, and unsurprising a few of us had stomach aches the day after. Only complaint of the night is that Asahi’s generous allocation of beer went almost untouched.

Tsk Tsk. That would never happen in Malaysia. So guys, when you bringing the event up here?

YEAR OF THE GERBIL

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Our man Luthfi Mustafah, aka The Killer Gerbil, will be holding Family - a solo art exhibition courtesy of Singaporean streetwear brand, Geseho. We all know Killer Gerbil as one of the premier street artists in the region. His rodent-inspired graf has been sprawled across countless surfaces, his live art installations never fail to entertain - yet this will actually be his first solo art exhibition in Singapore.

(Above: The Killer Gerbil in action at Streething’s All in the Family event)

Family will feature a mix of street art, portrait photographs as well as the ubiquitous live performance. Streething will be in town to mooch off the free beer, whilst Sole Obsession will be selling their hot dogs for SGD$1 a pop (We actually told them to charge more, but they want their devil dogs in many mouths as possible, so who are we to argue?).

Family will kick off at the Geseho Guerilla Store at 7pm on 26th April 2008, for those that can’t make it there will be a repeat screening from 1-5pm the day after – minus the booze, usual mad antics and hot dogs.

BANGKOK ORIGINALS

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Streething was in Bangkok over the weekend for the Celebrate Originality party thrown by adidas Thailand. The huge Galaxy Restaurant was converted into a shrine full of trefoils and stripes, it was hard not to be impressed by the attention to detail.

The Crooked Tongues crew brought a heavy London vibe to the mix, with music handled by the turntable trio of Harry Love (Kung Fu), DJ MK (KISS 100) and Mr Thing (DMC Champ). Mystro (Kung Fu/N.B.S) handled the mic all night, whilst BJ Betts (aka Cuban Bee) was on hand to demonstrate his ink skills

Talk is cheap when it comes to parties, tons of pictures after the jump. Be warned that they may take a while to load.

nb-576-20th-lf-32.jpg

Last Friday, New Balance Singapore celebrated the 20th anniversary of the 576 alongside the official opening of Leftfoot Anthropology. A collection of 200 rare kicks from the past, present and future were exhibited - all killers and no fillers. The only other aspect that was more impressive was the sheer effort that was put in. A throne area was set up for the Purple Rose 576 and the Epic Room was set up to house some of the most exclusive New Balance kicks on the planet. Projectors were brought in to throw 576 and New Balance imagery around the store and out on to the street. This may have been the reason why the power kept tripping, which resulted in room temperature soaring a few notches above normal.

Nonetheless, people didn’t care, they were having a hell of a time. Food and booze on tap, music courtesy of DJ Ume from Japan, as well as a lightning quick graffiti installation by Jahan. It was in some ways a dream come true for Leftfoot founder, Anthony Ho. Stay tuned to Streething later this week for a look back at Leftfoot’s history, future plans and why the party meant so much to Anthony. In the mean time, here’s what went down during the party.
