WHEN PIGS CAN FLY

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Newsflash: USD$10,000 reward for the “missing” inflatable pig. The description reads - plastered all-over with anti-capitalist slogans, floats in the air and is the size of a small house. Please be warned, the abductors may be dangerous.

The giant porker, part of the Coachella annual music and arts festival in California, was tagged by graf artist Slick for Roger Waters (Of Pink Floyd) closing-set. As Waters ended the festivities, the pig was released and gracefully drifted off into the moonlight. If the swine happens to swing past your vicinity, hit up lostpig@coachella.com to cash in on the bounty.

SINGAPORE MOTOR CITY

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Over the weekend, a close-knit group of supporters and street art aficionados sacrificed a night of Singapore’s alluring nightlife and braved their way to a desolate stretch of automobile workshops for The Killer Gerbil’s first ever solo art exhibition. The collection of works, titled Family, showcased a series of portrait sketches, photographs, as well as tagged-art on canvas, license plates and even a Vespa scooter and car.

Held for less than 48 hours at Geseho Motor Works, the event was literally hot as hell, as most of the artworks were displayed inside the garage’s paint oven. Geseho is a newly established Singaporean streetwear brand, the name derives from founder Tony Tay’s - aka Lazy - father’s garage. Geseho will launch their new collection of apparel soon and are planning to hold more events to promote the local arts/creative scene within the region.

As per usual, the live graffiti installation by South East Asia’s most notorious rodent was entertaining, as was the obligatory pyromaniac celebrations that followed. Surprisingly, Sole Obsession managed to sell off all their hot dogs and buns, and unsurprising a few of us had stomach aches the day after. Only complaint of the night is that Asahi’s generous allocation of beer went almost untouched.

Tsk Tsk. That would never happen in Malaysia. So guys, when you bringing the event up here?

IT’S A FIX!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Much to our surprise/amusement, a handful of very brave Streething members have taken to the notoriously bumpy city streets with brake-less bicycles - resulting in what seems to be the (unofficial) start of the fixed-gear movement in Malaysia.

101 Fixed-Gear written by Squid for Puma is a couple of years old, but still provides those looking to get into fixies an easy-to-read and comprehensive guide.

Almost everything is explained, from assembling a bike, choosing parts, riding techniques, common tricks and general care. For those that don’t have any desire to get into the increasingly popular movement, the introduction provides a good explanation why enthusiasts prefer fixies over more safer and less tasking bicycles.
