FREE HYBRID BOOT

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Unlike the majority of hybrid sneakers we’ve seen from Nike lately, such as the Air Force 1 fusions and Jordan hybrids etc,  the Free Hybrid Boot combines technology and design elements in a much less in-your-face way.

The boots feature more mature components, such as a moccasin style toebox and plain leather uppers. Yet, the Free Hybrid Boot is unmistakably a sneaker; the Free sole and ACG-esque heel strap ensures that these aren’t out to replace your formal shoes or your “grown-up” kicks.

The design surely isn’t for all, but that can be said about most of the Free/Considered range, which has given rise to some of the most innovative sneakers of the last few years - these being no exception.

Available at selected Nike stockists across South East Asia around September 2008.

ROLL THE DICE

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

When news of the Reebok Reverse Jam Monopoly pack first surfaced on the net, the response was not very favourable. Coming right after the Kool Aid pack, it sort of left a sour aftertaste in what many were saying would be the company’s comeback year. Very unfortunate indeed, as Reebok has a very strong line-up of non-gimmick based kicks this year that definately deserve more attention.

So when we were sent a couple of boxes of boks to shoot, we immediately rolled our eyes at some of the disasters of the Monopoly pack. Upon closer inspection, some of the kicks from the pack don’t look too bad at all. Unlike the kicks based on Monopoly money, the trio pictured below do not come off looking like cheap bootlegs.

Available soon at selected Reebok stockists across South East Asia.

A TO THE Z

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

In what is easily the biggest collaborative project this year in sneakerdom, the adidas Consortium AZX series pulls in 26 of the world’s most influential sneaker/streetwear stores, supporters and brands, with names including Neighborhood, ACU, HUF, Crooked Tongues etc, to design a sneaker of choice from the classic ZX running range. Thankfully, Limited Edt, Singapore, just recently managed to secure a Consortium account, so you can hassle them for more info when release dates are announced.

WHAT’S UP DOC?

I remember during my secondary school days, there was no hiding from Dr. Martens. Almost everyone who was “in” either had a pair, or they badly wanted one. Suddenly, something as ubiquitous as workboots became a must have fashion item. Then after a while, DMs completely dropped off the radar and kids couldn’t be paid to rock them.

After experiencing some troubles recently, it seems that the Doc is attempting to make a comeback, with a range more suited for the new millenium. Just in at Front Row, Singapore, are these colourful 1460 8 Eye Boots in patent leather. These boots are made for the ladies, but guys with small feet are welcome to try their luck.

Available now at Front Row, 5 Ann Siang Rd, Singapore.
