CHINA UNMASKED

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

And here’s part of the reason that New Balance brought us all the way to Shanghai: the top secret 576 China Mask design. The unique aspect of this release, apart from the Chinese Opera influenced design, is that the kicks feature a different colourway for each side. Yes, that’s right, the pair pictured below are meant to be worn that way.

A seemingly strange choice, since each individual side could work as a separate release in their own right; stay tuned as we interview the design team on the creative process behind the whole China Mask project. As of now, we have gotten quite hammered at the expense of New Balance, so expect a full report on the event a bit later.

The New Balance 576 China Mask is an Asia Pacific exclusive and is limited to 576 pairs; available at selected stockists around South East Asia around August 2008.

ALL IN YOUR GRILL

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

One of our favourite models from Reebok is the classic Ventilator. Getting the name from the ventilator-type grills on the sides that allow heat to be dissipated more quickly, combined with ERS cushioning, the Ventilator is one of those sneakers that you can just wear all day. We have been seeing some solid colourways being released lately, and this upcoming release continues the trend. No over the top designs - just good colour and material combinations.

Available soon at selected Reebok stockists across South East Asia.

BLACK ATTACK

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Another day, another Dunk - haven’t we seen it all by now? We probably have, but we’re a sucker for the classic silhouette, especially when they drop in such solid colourways as these Dunk HIs. Featuring a mixture of materials such as nubuck, leather and mesh, whilst the most prominent design aesthetic is the embossed leather side panels. Other colourways with the embossed pattern will also be released.

Available at selected Nike stockists across South East Asia soon.

ROUND 1 FIGHT!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

During the 90s, on the back of the revolutionary Street Fighter II, the Street Fighter series of 2D fighting games could do no wrong. The anticipation for Street Fighter III was immense - people were expecting miracles.

When it was finally released in 1997, it featured silky smooth 2D graphics and an interesting combat system - and that was it. Street Fighter III came out and it was just another fighting game.

At the time, home consoles such as the original Playstation were really taking off, which eventually resulted in the demise of the arcade industry. Capcom have laid off from making any new fighting games lately, but for the 20th anniversary of Street Fighter this year, they will be releasing Street Fighter IV.

Free from any ridiculous expectations, the game will definately be a treat from long-time fans, such as ourselves. For the release, Capcom have teamed up with American streetwear brand Triumvir on some projects. Little is known at the moment, but the first project will revolve around Street Fighter 2 final boss Vega (Or M. Bison in the states) and his Shadaloo Crime Syndicate.

Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming projects.

CH-CHECK IT OUT!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

It is needless to say that Vans sneakers and the checkerboard pattern go hand-in-hand; one of their most basic and popular designs, it seems as if almost everyone has a pair. For the Vans Classic Fall ‘08 collection, they will be releasing the SK8-Hi in crazy all-over checker prints.

The check pattern varies in size and covers the whole shoe both inside and out, resulting in an extremely striking pair of kicks. Staring at these for prolonged periods may cause hypnosis - you have been warned.

Available at Vans Classic stockists around South East Asia in August 2008.
