The fixed gear movement has enjoyed increased popularity in South East Asia over the last 18 months. Communities such as KL Fixed and BKK Fixed have been spreading the good word of riding on a bike with no brakes, and have managed to entice a cluster of curious bystanders into becoming hardcore enthusiasts. Although communities around here are still in their infancy, other cities around the world have been doing the fixie thing for quite some now.
Fast Friday is a 45-minute feature film documentary that traces the emergence of the fixed gear community in Seattle. Originally the name of a monthly event started two years ago by Dustin Klein of Cadence Clothing, Fast Friday the movie became possible when director David Rowe joined the group and started filming. Ideally, we would like the movements around here receiving such documentation as they grow.
Fast Friday is currently on a 17 city tour as part of Bicycle Film Festival, and is also available for purchase on DVD here.

Steve Aoki aka Kid Millionaire aka ‘every hipsters favourite DJ’ - the mere mention of his name around these parts is enough to cause mass hysteria. Maybe that’s taking things a bit far, but when Aoki has a gig here it’s almost guaranteed to get packed like a motherf*@*$r, and certain to get more than a bit messy when he starts jumping all over the place. Rightclicka has just put up a live mix he done before spinning in Ibiza, headover to download it. Note: Stage diving not included.

A couple of years ago, Evisu payed tribute to original denim pioneers Levi’s, Wrangler and Lee, by releasing a series of jeans that featured the famed cutting and characteristics of some of their classic models. Now, Evisu pay homage to Lee once again with this new model: No. 13 LEFT. Not only do the jeans feature left hand twill denim, but the back pockets most notably have the classic Lee Lazy S detail painted on, whilst the rear leather patch is on the left, like the 101Bs from the 1930s. Even the Evisu Heritage logo inside is made to appear like the orignal Lee ‘Union Made’ label from that era.
Look for these jeans to be released at selected stockists worldwide from January 2009.

Taking inspiration from elements usually associated with the Heavy Metal music genre, these Terminator Highs from Nike aren’t made to mosh, but they certainly rock! The usual Terminator font on the heel has been given a gothic makeover, whilst just above it are a cluster of studs and rivets. The pitch black leather on the uppers are given just enough pop through the use of a gold midsole and swooshes, and the final touch is the inclusion of a guitar pick sneaker tag. Time to get metal!
Available this month at selected Nike stockists across South East Asia.

It has become quite common practice for the more fashionable high street establishments to enlist the help of internationaly reknown designers to work on more “edgy” collections. When executed properly, such collaborations often result in pieces that we wouldn’t normally find on their racks, whilst also injecting a healthy dose of credibility at the same time.
For the upcoming H&M store opening in Tokyo, the Swedish brand have managed to rope in Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garcons to create this collection of garments - bringing a touch of high fashion to the high street. Hopefully H&M will decide to bring their blend of affordable prices and of-the-moment fashion to South East Asia sometime in the near future.
